Fix The Xbox RROD - An Important Guide You Can Use

Any debris that manages to get into this area, especially the heat sink, can interfere with the electrical behavior of these parts, which results in the red ring. Apply a thermal compound to the heat sink to restore to its factory state. Replace the sink and the clamps with new screws because the old screws would have been susceptible to heat erosion if they had not already. Fasten them tightly and close the cover and this should solve the problem.
Unfortunately, this does not always resolve the issue, in which case it is likely the graphics chip. You can send your unit to Microsoft who will replace it for you, but it will cost you parts and labor. Because of this you should look into replacing it yourself.
